Amanda Brugel
(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island has a lot of communities. For those who haven't heard of it often confuse it with a separate island facing west. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but because of a huge growth spurt she outgrew the dance partners she had. In an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. When I grew out of my male partners, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school that led her in the right direction. Teacher who recommended she try to get a role for school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in 2000. Over the past 20 years since Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the part as Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared at times.
